I was taking remeron and gained a huge amount of weight, has anyone else experienced this problem

Yup. I've just stopped it and I'm starting to lose the weight.

I have gained lots of weight too. And as i feel they not working properly i have stopped taking them.

I don't take the medication, but I know that one of mine causes weight gain
