I never got blood tests or anything, I just knew I was very depressed and needed help and went to my family doctor and they told me where I might get help. I called a mental health doctor and they never got back to me, so I called back and said, "Look I really don't want to hurt myself, I would like it if someone could see me.", so they got me in right away. I realized that I could not take the pressures out in society, because it feels like everyone hates me. I cannot afford to go to talk to someone more than once a month, however I am getting a few things sorted out and don't want to hurt myself anymore, and all this without medication.

He wilk take your history and signs and symptoms and ask you to get different bloiods done like thyroid function heamaglibin ,(,amount of iron in blood) and a few others he might even request a brain scan. When he has all the results he will make a diagnosis and prescribe medication

Your doctor will ask you questions like is there anyone in your family etc that has a mental health problem and how are you feeling and what is happening with you and what are you doing things like that. The doctor might seen you off for blood tests but they don't always he will also want to know if you are allergic to anything in the way of medication. Depending on how you are managing and what other background you have things like that he might get you to see a counsellor and you will probably end up seeing a psychiatrist as well don't be scared to do these things and you are not crazy these are just steps toward you feeling better again and to maintain a balanced mental health once stabilised. You will spend a lot of time in and out of appointments with your Doctor, Psychiatrists and maybe counsellors things like that and medications and changes in them in the beginning but as you get on the right meds you will feel better in time and there wont be so many appointments as you get better. Depending on the results of blood tests and how you answer questions and what your history is things like that usually decides how he proceeds they don't usually get you to do brain scans and things like that unless it is an illness that can be seen in the brain. It depends on your body manner as well when I went to the doctor I was so quiet and had my head down and feeling low and suicidal so he knew that I had some kind of mental health problem and I was crying all over the place so he could say I had depression then he got me to go to the psychiatrist for a confirmation of his diagnoses and any other diagnoses mental health wise and for recommendations of types of medications to prescribe as your doctor will get a report from the psychiatrist on what they think it is and what meds to use etc. You can request a copy of any reports etc that is done on you by the doctor or psychiatrist or anyone in the health profession you just need to ask for it. Off and on you will bounce between the doctor and psychiatrist especially to begin with after awhile you will only be under your doctor. Once meds have kicked in and you are balanced mentally you will be ok it is just the initial diagnosing and balancing that will take the longest but you will get through it and be ok. Hang in there. You can take a friend or family member or someone you trust with you for support and to speak on your behalf if needs be you just need to let your support person knows that might happen and they will have to say that you have given them permission to speak on your behalf and the doctor etc will ask you if it is ok and you just have to say yes or no its not. If you say no you have to do all of the talking. Even if you say yes the doctor might still want you to answer some questions as well but majority of the talking can be done by your support person if you want. I hope this helps and good luck Gemini 79.
