The Power of Letting Go of What You Can't Control

Posted on August 3, 2018

"Life is too short. I can't control everything in my life. Trying to is exhausting!!" - member of MyDepressionTeam

When first faced with a depression diagnosis, a common fear is a lack of control over our health. How could our bodies betray us? How do we grab the reins back and fix the situation? Living with depression forces us to recognize what we can and cannot control.

Members on MyDepressionTeam have various strategies for letting go of control and fear, including:

1) using guided imagery to visualize letting go
2) opening up and trusting others
3) organizing or cleaning the house
4) reaching out for support from other members on MyDepressionTeam

Here are some conversations on MyDepressionTeam about letting go:

"I hope today I have the will to clean up the clutter and let go. I just want to treat myself as loving and gently as possible. The way I would want someone to treat me."

"Trying to get back on track and let go of heartbreak and trauma I've been through."

"The lesson I finally came to be able to see is I can have a good life. I needed to let go and see that I had the power all along to be happy."

Have you had moments of letting go just when you needed it most? What helps you 'let go' of things out of your control? Share in the comments below or directly on MyDepressionTeam.com.
