I'm thinking of getting a puppy in a year or so and train them to aid my depression. Maybe have them do deep pressure on my bad days. Has anyone used a dog for this kind of thing? I've found a breed that fits all the requirements of the family (not a lot of barking, not a lot of shedding), and I'm hoping this would be helpful, since I've tried so many different meds and have yet to find a good fit. Would love to hear others' experience. Thank you.
Service dog? Best thing EVER.
I think that would be great. I've heard a lot of positive vibes on it
We got a chiweenie puppy; Originally it was for my hubby, so he won't be lonely when I am gone; but she has helped me with my sadness/depression.
I need one
@A MyDepressionTeam Member I can't right away. One of my kids has neuralgia in their ears, and so must get a dog that doesn't bark too loud or too frequently. Of course any dog will bark, so we've come to an agreement about ways to handle it. The photo I put in is a Bergamasco Sheepdog. Their bark isn't as deep or loud as others I've listened to. In the meantime, I do have rabbits to cuddle, but I want to train a dog to do deep pressure therapy when I'm really feeling bad, to stop my knees bouncing when I'm anxious (most of the time), to lie down with me when I have a migraine, and to help me focus when I can't concentrate. The bunnies are soft and cuddly, but can't do all that.
Thank you all for your answers! I will be contacting my doctor to get a letter for my landlord.
