Alternative Medications For Treatment Of Bi Polar Or Mood Swings
A MyDepressionTeam Member asked a question 💭

Not sure if I really have bi polar as numerous psychiatrists gave me different diagnosis. I suspect maybe. Given all the medications I am on, and the fact I want to get off one to three that are hard to get off in the first place. One of them is Gabapentin and if I took it soread evenly across the day it would control my mood (mild case, not severe), but come to find out it is the reason why I am now have these vibration like tremors in my head that radiate down to my heart, its weird and… read more

It sounds like you need a new doctor to help you wean off some of your meds, and find the right diagnosis and drug that will really help you
I will pray for you that this can happen!
Take care!

I am new to this site, but I’m thinking that you’re looking for a “mood stabilizer?” I have medication resistant Major Depressive Disorder. I’ve been through 18 rounds of ECTs and also 9wks of TMS (Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation) treatments. I have been on at least 15 different anti-depressants over the last 26yrs and the only one that gave me any kind of relief is a medication called Remron 45mg! And as far as mood stabilizers go, I take 300mg of Seroquel along with my Remron and it seems to work pretty good. I know outcomes of treatment are different for everyone, but hopefully my share helps somebody out there 😊 Best of luck to you!

I think that I tried Lamotragine years ago for depression, but I can’t recall what happened. A lot of the psych meds faiked me, but can’t recall what happened with that one. I should have kept a journal. I am not sure what Abilify does. My issue is that I easily get Seratonin Syndrome and it pushes me to suicidal thinking or other swing mood effects. I am better off Seratonin drugs. I tried a precursor for dopamine to see what my reaction would be and it made me manic I believe. Thats why I am trying to find a safer stabilizer, brcause I read up on Lithium and you gotta be monitered because of what it does to the body. I started thinking this, because Gabapentin soread evenly throughout the day yielded that result, but I gotta get rid of the brain vibration stuff. I am trying Vitamin B Complex based upon a recommendation in my Fibro support grouo for that to see if it calms them down. I just started it so I don’t know yet. My concern is if I gotta get off the Gabapentin, then I need something for the mood swings. And likely these Fibro meds are messing me up big time in other ways. I wish I could just smoke medical MJ and it would solve all my problems, but that is just false hopeful thinking when it comes to this.
