Giving Up Alcohol
A MyDepressionTeam Member asked a question 💭

I realise sadly that I've come to depend on alcohol nightly to help me relax and lift my mood a little which it surprisingly does and help me sleep.
But I really don't want to continue like this as when I do have a break I feel much more clear and stable.
My question is as my willpower isn't the strongest would anyone be prepared to be my buddy to help me give up?
Many thanks in advance 😊

Hey Flossicus , I've tried for years , many years , to get one of my Sons off alcohol . He still denies having a problem with it . He is totally dependant on it . It has destroyed all his relationships . His kids , three from two relationships , go without . He is heading for the gutter . I cannot stop him . It is heartbreaking . He works hard but drinks harder . . I wont give up on him and it is destroying me . . If you want a hand I will try my hardest , whatever I can do , to help you . . I know it is a very hard road as I have the same battle with cigarettes . But at least I keep trying and will win . . . . . You recognise there is a problem , half the battle . . . If you would like to try , with my help , . Just ask . . Please before it is tooooo late .

Maybe try an AA meeting. Just go with an open mind. You don’t have to say anything. Just listen and you may hear something you can relate to. I’ve been going to AA for 27 years. It has helped me tremendously. Also just try to abstain from alcohol for 24 hours. One day at a time. See if that helps. Good luck and God bless.
