A MyDepressionTeam Member asked a question 💭

I stopped Venlafaxine after a month due to suicidal thoughts on dose increase to 75mg. I am a newbie to AD's. Previously on Fluoxetine for two months. Fluoxetine upped to 40mg drove my anxiety to panic. My diagnosis is GAD from our GP doctor. Back on Fluoxetine 20mg with intake appointment for a Psychiatrist set for May 13th.

I never had the idea of killing myself before starting the antidepressants.

How does this work????????????? In my opinion, not very well so… read more

I'm on venlafaxine at the moment and have previously been on fluoxetine. I remember when I first started taking them both my suicidal thoughts increased. I was told it was an expected side effect and it would wear off in a couple of weeks. Make sure you speak to your mental health worker or doctor but I promise the feelings do pass and the meds kick in soon ☺

If you're having suicidal thoughts you should get an emergency appointment with your psychiatrist. In my experience if they're a good psychiatrist they'll listen and change you to a different med or look at other options. Good luck I know how hard it is..

@A MyDepressionTeam Member Hi. Sometimes it doesn't work. But you are doing the right thing by your appt with a psychiatrist. He/she will give you a diagnosis. Based on the diagnosis you will get medicines. If you are currently having trouble you should contact the GP and let him/her know....especially if you are having suicidal thoughts. Best of luck!
