Quitting From Venlafaxine (Efexor / Venlor) Etc
A MyDepressionTeam Member asked a question 💭

Has anyone on this site given up taking their prescribed medication for depression? If so, how do you feel after coming off the drug? Di you go right back to start or can one cope? I am weening myself off Venlafaxine over a 10 week period and it is going ok so far. Please send comments.

Well the time has passed quickly and I have been a few days now WITHOUT Venlafaxine. Having weaned myself off over 10 weeks, I have not felt any withdrawal symptoms. However the scale just moved in the opposite direction. My numb carefree emotionless life is over. (Hear that Mr Psychaiatrist !!!! Its not the Depression making me emotionless but your damn drug you want me to take to the grave). I have now cried twice. Last time was several years ago. I now get angry and argue, feel happy doing some things, get excited and disappointed. Have not felt any love yet but that might just be written off. And hello again depression and composing suicide notes. At least I know I'm not poisoning my body. The drug is like going to a Dentist every day for a pain injection for a rotten tooth and never getting it pulled of filled. Its a state of mind that allows you to keep going. Truth is you need the tooth out. An overloaded mind needs the weight shed. We cant seem to do that because we deem everything so necessary in our hi tech modern lives. Back to basics. What did the cavemen need to survive??? If you can trim the wants and needs to the extent that the brain can handle the amount of stress, IT will stop retarding your emotions to the extent that you cant function properly to do self repairs. Drugs is like putting a thick wire over the fuse to allow you to carry on without load shedding. Something is going to burn out. So what? a thicker wire (300Mg).

I have suffered from High Blood Pressure for 28 years. Since loosing my job 21 months ago and still jobless, I reduced my daily dose of med from 30Mg to 15Mg to zero. I have been off it for 5 months. My BP = 130/67 pulse 66 and I am in no way fit. It was always 150/90. That I attribute to shedding the stress of work. ( Un-intentionally ). Of course jobs are what we need but think about all the other unnecessary things in your life.
Although I feed down, I feel a lot more empowered to tackle life even if it means shifting and re-arranging the comfort zone. Love & strength to all.

I weaned myself off Effexor ex R in two weeks. My primary doctor wanted me to go off of it cold turkey. I did not have too Many problems except for the fact that my brain kept looking for the stimulants that were in the Effexor. My new med was Cymbalta and did not have the stimulants. I finally had to go to the psychiatrist and he added Wellbutrin and that combination is working well for me.
