I just recently found a new psychiatrist and did Genesight genetic testing to determine what meds might work best for me. I’ve suffered from PTSD, OCD, severe depression, and anxiety for most of my life and have been on and off so many medications with no real lasting benefits. The genetic testing revealed that I have a gene mutation called MTHFR which basically has a huge effect on how my body is able or not able to metabolize certain meds. I have been through hell with the medication changes and I am extremely nervous about the new meds I’m taking and what to expect, etc. my doctor weaned me off of @<a href="/treatments/celexa">Celexa</a>, which I have been on for years… And, apparently, due to my gene mutation, my blood levels of the @<a href="/treatments/celexa">Celexa</a> were extremely high, therefore, causing withdrawal to be much more severe and long-lasting than for the average person coming off of it. She switched me to 150mg of @<a href="/treatments/zoloft">Zoloft</a> and has now added on an atypical drug called Geodon ( typically prescribed for bipolar, schizophrenia but has off label use in severe depression and anxiety disorder). I just started it two days ago… 40 mg once a day at bedtime. It completely zonks me out to the point that I feel drugged even hours after I wake up in the morning.. I have also had muscle stiffness and awful headaches... and it seems as if I have more anxiety late in the afternoon when my next dose of the Geodon is due in a few hours. It is hard to tell right now what symptoms of mine are a result of still being in withdrawal from the @<a href="/treatments/celexa">Celexa</a>, and which are side effects of either the @<a href="/treatments/zoloft">Zoloft</a> and/or the Geodon. Yesterday, after my first dose, I was trembling and shaky and tearful for hours. After my second dose last night, I felt a little bit better today when I woke up. But I’m experiencing a lot of heightened anxiety within three hours range of when my next dose of it is due This medication change has been hell on earth I have also been researching and it appears that most people take the Geodon twice a day? Whoever is still reading this, I am so incredibly grateful to you and I would appreciate so very much hearing from anyone who might have any experience like this. I like my doctor and I have faith in her, I am just really afraid. I am willing to stick with the meds that she has me on but would love to talk to somebody else who has been on one or both of these meds. Thank you so very much! Hi! I know how hard and scary it is when playing with your meds. It’s such a guessing game! I have been on Geodon in the past and I felt much calmer on it, but I had rapid weight gain and it seemed to aggravate my restless legs. I didn’t stay on it long and I only took it once a day at bedtime. I did notice a calming effect though. That’s really all the information I have for you. Good luck! Hugs!

I had suicidal thoughts on Zoloft, on citalopram, only have foggy brain in am, but I sleep much better now.

No, Katie, I did not experience that. I’ve been diagnosed with Generalized Anxiety Disorder, but I just really don’t feel anxious! So funny lol! I’be never taken Zoloft, so I cannot speak to that. I think it’s a SSRI and I can’t take those. I do hope they find the right combination for you that works! Good luck! Hugs!
