I know this can be a tough subject. It is one I am having the most difficult time with. Did I screw up my children? Maybe I should have never had children. Maybe they would have been better off without me.

My children are not young anymore. My oldest is 21 and my youngests, twins, are 12. All have mental illnesses. 3 out of 4 have ADHD. 2 confirmed to have depression, with a 3rd as possible. 1 has anxiety disorder, and a 2nd as a possible. The possibles are because at time of testing… read more

Children do inherit mental health issues. Some things are passed down form grandparents. There is no way of preventing it. Don't blame yourself it can't be helped.

I think that the genetic link is not really known at this point; however from my personal experience it is about 50% genetic and 50 % nurturing. Your children only got half their dna/genes from you... and as parents we all make mistakes... as we mature and also become parents ourselves we start to understand this.
Forgive yourself- tell your children that you love them... it goes a long way in helping them cope...
