So I'm 6 weeks pregnant and feeling better than I have in a very long time. My doctor wanted me to come off my meds but when I first found out I was pregnant that thought scared me massively. I'm now considering weaning off the tablets at some point during pregnancy although I don't feel ready just yet. Has anybody had experiences with this and if so, how did you do so (if you did) and if not, what was your reasoning. Any advice would be appreciated.
I am a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner and while I was practicing, the recommendations were that mother who suffer from depression stay on meds BUT they have to be safe or cause minimal side effects for the infant. Talk to your OB/GYN, Ask your pharmacist, Research! you be surprise at the number of doctors who do not know! a psychiatrist can be consulted. ALSO BE AWARE THAT HORMONAL CHANGES IN YOUR BODY WILL ALREADY CAUSE CHAOS IN YOUR MENTAL STATE. Do NOT feel guilty if you have to take antidepressants during your pregnancy, but just be on the alert and research! Good luck to you!
I am glad you are doing your research CharlieCollins! If you do decide to stop your meds...as your doctor advised, then you are correct in having them tapered off by a reliable source. Abruptly stopping them can reap havoc. Good to hear that you are informed about breastfeeding!
Not had any really I just keep myself occupied or just sit quietly ..
There are antidepressants that you can take when your pregnant. Talk to your Dr. And March on. I'm sure you want a healthy baby as well as being healthy yourself. Good luck.
Thank you so much for your kind words. I really want to breastfeed so I know that's probably the only option for me to come off them. I'll speak with my midwife tomorrow and see what she suggests. Thank you so much x
