Forgetting And Zoning Out Completely ... Anyone Else?
A MyDepressionTeam Member asked a question 💭

Hey guys. I really want to know something ... does anyone else zone out completely while talking to someone, so you forget what they've just said? I was talking to a co-worker today, and he had just told me that he was babysitting on Monday and not at work, but I still asked him if he was working. And I keep forgetting things too, in particular these past couple of days - I work in a call centre, and if I need to transfer a call to my colleagues I found myself sitting there thinking "What did… read more

This looks like dissociation to me (or it reminds me of it anyways), and yeah, happens a lot. It's a coping mechanism that makes you detached from reality. It's not just daydreaming though. Symptoms include losing time, feeling unreal and sometimes unfeeling for a moment, seeing the world through what I'd describe as a haze -hearing and seeing things but not really registering them, like they're happening from far away and you only get the echoes. Some people say it's like sleepwalking through a task.

A symptom of depression in general is forgetfulness. Depression slows you down, so it takes more time to really process things and, well, the world can go faster than you.

I am totally the same way. This is one of the reasons I haven't worked in a few years. I keep thinking I want to go back to work but my brain won't allow it 😣 I'm working on it
