Many years ago, I was hospitalized and treated (knowingly???) with ect 5-7 times in a week and a half span. I didn't know who I was. Not knowing I was married, I had a brief encounter with another man on the ward. Wicked guilt on that one. Years later, I did a bout of over 30 ect treatments. I suffered with PTSD over this course of treatment, even to this day. I have triggers now. My memory was deplorable immediately after each zap, but that is normal. However, so many years later, I have massive loss of short and long term recall/memory. I'm very passionate about the experience and affect of ect on innocent people. For some, it helps. For me it was brain suicide. Recurring flashbacks.

I have had 61 treatments since 2008 and am willing to have more. I have suffered NO brain damage or memory loss as a result of this procedure. I did have temporary memory loss, which is normal. These days, the process is more refined. I get unilateral ECT, to mitigate damage. I approve its use and attest to its effectiveness.

i. too, have major memory loss, and i am sorry to say, it does not come back. stopping the treatment--soundslikeyoudid--will allow you to make new memories, but the old ones are gone. i am sorry.
