Does Your Depression Effect Your Bowel Movements
A MyDepressionTeam Member asked a question 💭

I am just wondering if anyone else is suffering with bowel movements with their anxiety and depression, soon as I have a meal half hour later I'm on the loo and it's going right though me

@A MyDepressionTeam Member Try to avoid caffeine, or energy drinks that contain juice like Rockstar or Monster, avoid pure orange juice and avoid grapefruit wherever possible, eat wholewheat bread, avoid acidic foods vinegar and other sauces made with vinegar like ketchup, avoid greasy/oily food, eat small meals but regular, avoiding large meals, be careful about medication times and meals, as taking medication directly with or after a meal can cause an upset stomach, my Ritalin leaflet suggests I eat before my medication, but that would be a serious mistake, as it'd cause the Ritalin to irritate and I'd be in the same situation, I take my meds about an hour before I eat, also if it's persistent as Helen says see your GP, they may want to do some blood tests to see if anything else is going on, as well as making a referral to a dietician :) Good Luck :)

I'm not supposed to take loperamide, because of my meds, their ok for some people, but there are certain meds you're not supposed to take them alongside, and I don't think it's healthy to take them regularly either, if I wanna control it slightly taking 15mg Codeine Phosphate does the job for me, it also eases any cramp, or mild pain I may be experiencing at the time, my GP is great and uses things off label for different reasons, but says use them sparingly, I might need 1 every few weeks if I have to change my meds time to work round a function, and eat after my meds, it's so much better than taking loperamide all the time, but again not something I'd advise taking all the time, best to see a GP if it's ongoing :)

I suffer from depression and had toilet problems for quite a while. But then my food was going straight through me all the time. Got told it was ibs. Had some tests done and I just found out I have severe ibs and colognacious colitis. You probably don't have that and its most likely down to stress and nerves but worth getting it checked out just in case. Hope this has been of some help to you.
