Can Burnout Lead To Depression
A MyDepressionTeam Member asked a question 💭

I suddenly realized the other day that I may have burnout not depression. I have been there before, and got very ill and a lot of the symptoms are the same, so I looked up the symptoms of burnout and lo and behold I have each and every one, now what I want to know is..... do I have depression or burnout, and would one treat and medicate them the same? Im a bit confused.

Yes, it can. You nervous system takes one hell of a knock and it throws everything out of balance. A professional need to make the diagnosis though. Medically the treatment is pretty much the same. But again, a professional need to make that call.

I suffered burn out two years ago and I'm only now slowly but surely getting back to normal. My depression is because of it, all though we suspect that I had been depressed all my life and did not know it.

But yes, the two walk hand in hand and if not treated, can become a vicious cycle.

My advice, go and see your doctor.

YES ... You can have depression from burnout! Stress ...

Your poor brain and body were on overdrive.

When a car is pushed to its limit, it smokes, coughs, chokes and then STOPS.
Sometimes the engine needs an overhaul.

Serotonin, the happy hormone, needs the thought life to be HAPPY.
Fill the brain with good stuff, drink lots of water, eat fruit and veggies, and go for a nice walk.

This helps me!!! :-)

Hey Sharon... think that's what I had... took 3 months to begin to feel good again. I was doing 3 peoples job at work... had breakdown, got signed off.... felt completely debilitated for ages... finally coming out and restoring my energy level. I felt completely low, a friend gave me hypnosis which has lifted me and I now feel perky again. my doctor would not give me medication as it's not clinical, but from what I told her, work related.
Take care of yourself xx
