My previous employment was the cause of my PTSD and depression. Majority of the time I didnt know I was ill, just thought I was at fault and a failure. I wore masks for every situation and performed accordingly. It was a disasocation with self. Work I switched to professional. Was like being on auto pilot, when I got home I switched to my next role. Alone I fell to peices. Once diagnosed with major depression things started to make sense however my masks started to fail me. The rawness of the pain began to sneak out, I had less control. I told my boss and area manager of my diagnosis but very few others except close colleagues. This was so I could attend appointments and those close would understand if I wasnt behaving in the way they knew me. Id have pushed myself to continue in my job against Drs advice if my job had not been made redundant. It saved my life.

Hi, you should be a writer, you describe your experience amazingly :) I think you are a very brave person. I can relate to what you say. Crying and anger outbursts at work and usually for a good reason I think but not in control of it and no way to stop expressing feelings. I found it happened when I felt up against a wall suffocating with what was going on around me. People acting so unfairly and not understanding made me feel like I wasn't on the same planet as them. I am on new meds now and have improved but for all the times I got angry and stuck up for myself, I will not feel guilty. When I was younger and depressed, I never expressed it at all. I didn't know how too. I grew up feeling ugly and different from everyone else. I had no support. Now after over 10 years of talking therapy I express myself so why should I hide anymore but seems other people find it unacceptable especially at work. Stay brave and be strong. You are not alone xx

My defense meganisme is humor. So people don't really know what is going on with me. I am only a student but I did have a talk with the head of my department and she was really understanding and I think that with depression if you can truly explain to your boss what you are dealing with hopefully he/she will be just as understanding and supportive.

Anyone and everyone... they are not allowed to discriminate against anyone . Mental illness is a real illness. Just st as any illness. You also don't have to disclose your illness
