Med Changes
A MyDepressionTeam Member asked a question 💭

I recently was changed from 60 mg of Prozac to 20 mg of celexa. It was very bad. Depression overload. Now up to 40 mg of celexa and I feel much better. It's only been a couple of days but is this the med changes or my bipolar swing?

Hard to say ... depends on how rapid you cycle with your bipolar and it's only been a couple of days... give it about three weeks to get into your system and then see how you're feeling. :)

I only took a few days to start responding to celexa also, but I put it down to placebo effect. 3 weeks in and I have levelled out a bit. I'm still depressed but I'm not crying all the time.

Enjoy the good times, live in the moment- whatever the cause, you are allowed to be happy!

When making a med change, most docs start with the lower dose then work up. It's true that it can take weeks for the effects of the new medication to stabilize. Just be honest with your doctor about how you are feeling. Sounds to me like you might be responding to the meds. I'm just a nurse though and not a doctor, so I really can't say for sure.
