My GP wants me to see a psychiatrist. He gave me a list of names to call but a few went to fax numbers, one was engaged all the time, one kept ringing through & when I actually did get to speak with someone the psychiatrist had left the practice 2 years ago. I've always seen female therapists so would prefer female. Am open to seeing a male tho. TIA :)
Psychiatrists are hard to find where I live in Smalltown USA. :) When I had this issue, I actually called all the psychiatrists in the area (4) and went in to meet each of them for a consultation. My insurance only paid for one of the visits but I was able to negotiate a reduced rate for the others because it was private pay. Good luck to you in finding one. The psychiatrists I have seen have been very helpful. They aren't afraid to prescribe the higher doses of meds that most of us need like family physicians are.
