Does Your Body Ache?
A MyDepressionTeam Member asked a question 💭

Does anyone have pain when they are stressed or tired? I am stressed out about my son and I've noticed lately that my shoulder and neck hurt. I work out 6 days a week and I strech really good. I've had this before but I realized it gets worse with stress. I'm also tired and having some trouble sleeping due to the stress. Lately my back has been hurting as well. I think they are connected. I just want to see if anyone else goes through this and what if anything helps you out.

Hi Katie
Yes stress can cause a whole heap of trouble in the nervous system and our complicated pathways of muscle groups. I may assume that workin out 6 days a week does not cause you pain but in fact makes you more supple :)
So by that deduction alone I would say it's probably stress, that said you may have an underlying injury or something else is going on so I would check it out. I personally worked out a lot. I also ran marathons and was a dance teacher so I was very supple and fit, then I started to get niggles and strains and injuries I just couldn't get over, it was then I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia :( it sucks but I still jog a little (not far) and I run light keep fit classes :)
You take care

Same here. When I'm especially anxious and stressed I often get flu like symptoms too. The other week I had some lemsip, thinking it actually was flu but the next day all the symptoms had gone. I've had a sore back all week this week, due to lifting a suitcase on and off trains but it's not easing so I'm putting that down to being anxious. My digestion suffers all the time too, ie, always constipated and rely on laxatives regularly. I don't relax easily if at all. What a mess. Xx

When i had some awful stuff happening earlier this year i bought a lavender plant, stuck it in my bedroom and smelt a crushed flower head before going to sleep, worked amazingly, even put some under my pillow, even now when i feel tension il grab a flower head and smell and press onto my skin

I would suggest trying some lavender Epsom bath salts and try soaking in it. Not only helps with pain but helps your body relax. Maybe a little sleepy time tea before bed. It definitely will not hurt to give a try!

I have had muscle aches and tension associated with depression for 12 years. Yoga or Zumba helps.
